SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 11, 2026 - Zettabyte and LITE-ON Technology Corporation today announced a collaboration under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of a new class of Ultra Edge AI infrastructure, designed to operate directly within mobile and telecommunications networks while maintaining high standards of operational resilience and data security.
The effort will focus on the design, deployment, and evaluation of performance-optimized micro data centers, referred to as Ultra Edge PODs, deployed at cell towers, tower-adjacent facilities, and other network-proximate locations. These deployments are intended to enable low-latency, location-aware AI inferencing, bringing compute and intelligence closer to mobile users, radio access networks, and real-time data sources, while preserving data locality, data security, and infrastructure integrity.
As AI-driven applications increasingly demand instant response, localized processing, and operational resilience, traditional centralized data center models alone are no longer sufficient. The Zettabyte–LITE-ON collaboration seeks to address this gap by validating how GPU-based AI compute can be reliably operated, powered, and remotely managed within highly distributed telecom environments, where space, power, and physical security considerations are inherent.
Under the collaboration, Zettabyte will apply its distributed AI software platform to demonstrate AI inferencing, scheduling, and orchestration across geographically dispersed GPU resources. LITE-ON will contribute its advanced electrical power infrastructure, including multi-port bi-directional power converter rack systems, to provide a stable and efficient operating environment for edge-deployed GPU servers.
“The future of AI infrastructure is not centralized. It is distributed, location-aware, and deeply embedded into networks,” said Kenneth Tai, Chairman of Zettabyte. “This collaboration is about testing what it takes to run real AI workloads at the extreme edge, where reliability, data security, orchestration, and power stability are non-negotiable.”
"LiteOn's experience in power systems, thermal management, and physical infrastructure positions the company to support emerging edge AI use cases through disciplined, deployment-driven collaboration," says Jason Tsao, Associate Vice President and Head of Direct Current Microgrid at LITEON
The Ultra Edge POD initiative is designed to support emerging use cases that depend on proximity, latency, and data locality, including real-time analytics, intelligent network operations, localized AI services, and future mobile and edge-native applications.
In addition to technical evaluation, the parties will jointly explore engagement opportunities with tower operators, neutral-host providers, and telecommunications companies that are actively assessing or enabling edge compute and edge AI capabilities across their infrastructure portfolios.
Success under the MOU will be evaluated based on the overall operational performance of the Edge AI Deployment, taking into account software behavior, hardware configuration, network conditions, and real-world operating environments. The collaboration is intended to serve as a foundation for potential future strategic discussions, subject to further negotiations and internal approvals.
As AI continues to move closer to where data is generated and decisions are made, infrastructure must evolve accordingly. The collaboration between Zettabyte and LITE-ON reflects a shared vision: edge AI requires purpose-built, security-first platforms that integrate intelligent software orchestration with resilient, efficient power systems, engineered from the ground up for distributed environments.
